Saturday, December 23, 2006 Tom taps bry. leaders to help make Cebu financially stable
MAYOR Tomas Osmeña yesterday asked the help of all barangay officials in making Cebu City “financially stable and self-sufficient” by 2010.
And he sees the South Road Properties (SRP) as the instrument to achieve this dream, which he said must be realized because of an expected change in government leadership.
Speaking in yesterday’s inauguration of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) building at the SRP, Osmeña said President Arroyo, a known ally of Cebu City, will not be in power in 2010.
He said that by then, Cebu City should be independent enough to even fight the president, if needed.
“Kusog ang opposition sa Manila,” the mayor said.
He likewise announced that for the next two years, Filinvest Land Inc. will build “18 night clubs and restaurants” at the SRP by the sea.
Naturalized Filipino Michael Gleissner, owner of Bigfoot Global Solutions, Inc. will also set up a movie studio and yacht club.
The City wanted to entice Asia’s super rich to come to Cebu City and explore the many islands of the country.

“The Visayas is where the islands are,” he added.
Also, ABC President Eugenio Faelnar said that all ABC services and personnel will be at the SRP by next year.
Cebu City village chiefs and councilors yesterday inaugurated the P10-million ABC building funded by Arroyo, who was represented during the ceremony by Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Felix Guanzon.
North District Rep. Raul del Mar, Councilors Jose Daluz III and Edwin Jagmoc, Sr. were also present.
Faelnar said that to solve the transportation problem, he will personally lend one of his vehicles to shuttle those with business at the ABC building from the Aduana area to the SRP.
“They can just give P2 for gasoline,” he said.
The minimal fee, he said, will be used to defray maintenance and fuel expenses.
Aside from the ABC building, the mayor also told the barangay officials that the Senior Citizens Center is also being constructed.
He spoke proudly of a brass statue of Senior Sto. Niño made by a German sculptor, and P7.7 million worth of lights placed on slanting poles at the Mambaling Access Road.
The mayor said he also intends to create a floating clubhouse supported by discarded wooden electric poles at SRP’s Pond A.
The clubhouse will serve as an extension of the ABC building, he added. (RHM)
