“The corruption is so terrible,” he said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
He cited the construction of the new public market and the road in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia, which were implemented using borrowed funds.
He also said that the City Government has “oppressed” tricycle drivers by cutting their routes shorter.
Alternate
Dionson said that before the City implemented the law banning tricycles on highways, alternate routes should have been provided for them.
A lawyer, Dionson served as councilor from 1963 to 1969 when Mandaue was still a municipality. He was also a councilor when Mandaue became a city in 1969 and onwards until 1995.
Running mate
In 2003, he announced his bid to run for mayor but later gave way to then mayoralty candidate Ariston Cortes III.
This time, Dionson said it will be his decision to run no matter who his opponents will be.
However, he will not reveal yet his running mate nor his lineup of councilors.
Last month, the movement supporting the mayoralty bid of Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano was launched.
Jonkie, son of Mayor Thadeo Ouano, is the managing director of two branches of a fastfood chain in Cebu.
Asked to comment about running against somebody decades his junior, Dionson brushed it aside, saying no one from among the Ouanos has gone through what he has experienced.
Forefathers
“Dato lang sila, pobre mi (The only difference is that they’re rich and we’re not),” he said.
Dionson added that his father, who was a farmer, even tilled the land of the Ouanos’ forefathers in Talamban before.
Jonkie refused to comment on Dionson’s statement yesterday. He just reiterated that anyone is welcome to run for mayor of Mandaue. (AAG)
