Thursday, December 28, 2006 Tabo-tabo cops quarterfinals seat in Milo tennis tilt
VINCE Mark Tabotabo entered the quarterfinal round of the 10-Under unisex division of the Milo Junior Tennis Cup after a forceful 6-0, 6-0 win over Jacob Echague of Makati yesterday at the Philam Homes Tennis Club.
Tabotabo, who recently came off a decent performance in the International Junior Tennis Championship in Malaysia, booked a quarterfinal outing against unranked player Jason Latore today.
Tabotabo, a student of Tuburan Elementary School, is seeded third in the competition. He is supported by Vice Governor Greg Sanchez, Accord Bank and Tavos Sports.
The other Cebuano taking part in Milo’s concluding tournament for the year is Jacob Lagman of St. Benedict Learning Center. Lagman, who is the top player in the competition, enjoyed a bye in the first round.
His game against David Joseph Abarquez for his second round outing was delayed as of press time yesterday.
Lagman is the Most Outstanding Athlete of the Milo Little Olympics and also dominated this year’s elementary tennis contest of the Cebu City Olympics.
For his part, Tabotabo, who had taken part in his first international tournament in Malaysia, snagged a one gold and four bronze medals in the tournament.
The tournament was divided into four legs and held in Selangor, Penang, Perlis and Langkawi. He won his gold medal in the doubles event of the first leg, where he paired up with Jurence Mendoza. He wounded up third in two singles and two doubles events. (MCB)
