Wednesday, January 03, 2007 PSE, accounting firm to conduct seminar on IPO
Most small and medium enterprises (SMEs) raise their capital requirement through traditional modes, like selling properties, getting bank loans or saving enough retained income.
They probably do not know that the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) offers them an alternative way of getting that needed capital by conducting an initial public offering (IPO).
Some SMEs may have heard about the benefits of a public listing, like the preferential tax rates in selling stocks and the prestige attached to being a publicly listed company. But they choose to avoid the IPO route, because of preconceived notions about the hassles of going public.
But are listed companies really vulnerable to volatile stock price movements and flaky investor sentiments? Is dilution that bad and is it an invitation to a “kill” from a corporate raider?
What if you want your company to go public but you worry the market will reject you?
To help SMEs answer these and other questions, accounting and business advisory firm Punongbayan and Araullo and the PSE has assembled a team of capital market experts give a seminar on raising capital through IPO at 1 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the Cebu Parklane Hotel.
Targeted at SMEs, the half-day event will give attendees a clear picture of the path towards IPO. (PR)
