Wednesday, January 03, 2007 Opposition to list-up accepted only until tomorrow
AFTER the completion of voters’ registration, the Election Registration Board will convene on Jan. 8 to 12 for the hearing and approval or disapproval of the applications for registration.
Those who want to file an opposition against some applications only have until tomorrow to do so.
Provincial Election Supervisor Edwin Cadungog said there are several grounds for the filing of an opposition.
One ground is when the applicant has recently been discharged from jail after being convicted of a crime.
Cadungog said a person who is convicted of a crime is disqualified from exercising his right to vote for five years since the day of his or her release.
Another possible ground for opposition is if the registrant is underage or is a resident of another place.
Comelec also set on Jan. 7 the deadline for the completion of the registration process, including the entry of personal data and other biometrics for those who filed their applications before the 5 p.m. deadline last Dec. 31.
But poll offices whose data-capturing machines (DCMs) are defective may still go on with the processing of the applications.
Aside from defective DCMs, Comelec also had a shortage of registration forms during the registration period. Some poll offices had to photocopy the forms to proceed with the registration. (MBG)
