Suspect linked to third robbery

SUSPECTED robber Ronilo Nuñez’s arrest Tuesday night was not his first.

At least three other heists have been blamed on him, although the police said he has also squealed against his cohorts.

In June last year, he was one of three men arrested in Danao City for the alleged robbery on Premier Shipping, which lost P2 million.

He was arrested with brothers Glenn and Aladdin Jaime in Barangays Maslog and Danao City.

Aladdin was reportedly shot dead in Danao City recently, while the police are not sure where Glenn is.

Since then, Nuñez had cooperated in many robbery investigations, even helping in pinning suspected robbery mastermind Roy Quimada, said Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch chief Juanito Enguerra.

Quimada, who is out on bail, has been tagged as the top planner of many big heists in Metro Cebu and is reportedly the big boss of suspected robbery gang leaders Rey Torres and Danny Limotan.

Torres allegedly recruited Nuñez and the Jaime brothers.

Nuñez was arrested in Danao City last Tuesday, about four hours after he and a companion allegedly robbed Yusay Credit and Finance Corp. on Gorordo Ave in Cebu City.

He has also been linked to the October 2006 robbery on Alano and Sons Finance Corp., as well as another robbery on a lending firm in Subangdaku, Mandaue City last Dec. 22.

Enguerra said it was Nuñez who described Quimada’s Toyota Altis, leading to his arrest in San Remigio town fresh from a bank heist in Tabogon.

Quimada’s trial for the Aspac Bank robbery is ongoing at the Bogo Regional Trial Court.

Enguerra said that when Quimada attends the hearings, they noted he is escorted by at least five men believed to be Mindanao-based policemen.

He suspects Quimada still plans robberies in Cebu.

Enguerra told reporters yesterday that the last he heard of Nuñez was that he was involved in gunrunning activities in October.

He did not expect Nuñez to go back to robbery because he had spilled the beans on his cohorts and even described their modus in detail. (MEA)
