CebuFA to invite PFF to hold U21 tryouts in Cebu

TO give the Visayas booters a chance to shine for the national team, the Cebu Football Association (CebuFA) will invite the Philippine Football Federation to hold a trial for the Men’s Under-21 in Cebu later this month.

The PFF announced a national trials last month at the Philsports Football Arena last month, but CebuFA received the notice just two days before the scheduled trials.

“We are willing to shoulder the accommodation of the coach,” said CebuFA president Jonathan Maximo.

Maximo is eyeing the University of San Carlos-Technological Center and the San Roque Parish field as venues for the tryouts.

Players born on Jan. 1, 1987 or later are requested to join the trials. Those who make the cut will represent the country in the Asian Youth Football Championships on March 3-17 in Brunei.

If CebuFA plans push through, Bob Salvacion, the national Under-21 coach will be the third national coach to scour talents in Cebu.

The first one was senior coach Aries Caslib, who came here in May 2005 to scout talents for the Men’s Under-23 team.

Among the few who showed for the tryout, Oliver Colina made the cut and joined the national team in a tune-up tournament in Thailand before getting cut a week before the Southeast Asian Games.

3 players

Also summer last year, National Under-14 coach John Carmona dropped by Cebu and picked up three players for the team that played in the AFC Youth Festival in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the Aboitiz Boys 15 will resume this Saturday at the San Roque Parish grounds.

The Don Bosco College-B will face Colegio dela Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue, FC Inter Cebu will face Cebu International School, and favorites Blessed John will face Paref Springdale.

On Sunday, the Aboitiz Premier League will resume with four matches. Don Bosco Alumni FC will face the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, Queen City will take on Wilde Cebu, leaders Crazy Horse will play San Roque, and the University of San Jose-Recoletos will take on Magone FC. (ML)
