Woman, 33, boy, 1, found dead in deep well

THE bodies of a woman and her child were found in a seven-foot-deep well in Barangay Lingigon, Argao, Cebu.

Santino Embudo, a neighbor, made the discovery yesterday, as he was about to fetch water around 6 a.m.

He identified the victims as Concordia Bara-ngan, 33, and her one-year-old son Alejandre Jr.

Embudo said Concordia was still clutching her son when he spotted them.

Residents of Lingigon, which is 15 kilometers from the town proper, rely on well water for their personal hygiene and laundry.

Heavy rains, which raised the well’s water level, made it easy for responding policemen and barangay officials to fish out the bodies.

Argao Police Station Chief Crisanto Duque told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that Barangan may have committed suicide and taken her son with her.

According to initial investigation, Concordia and her husband Alejandre Sr. had a fight last Friday night that resulted to the latter returning to his hometown in Carcar.

Concordia, on the other hand, took shelter in her mother’s house, which is near their house in Lingigon.

Early last Saturday, Concordia left her mother’s house, bringing Alejandre Jr. with her.

No one had seen nor heard from them since then until yesterday morning.

Duque said he has not talked with Concordia’s husband. (JST)
