THREE Cebuanos collared the 2006 bowlers of the year diadems in their respective divisions, after winning the yearender competition—the 14th National Youth Championships—last December at the Pearl Bowling Center in Parañaque City.

Jomar Jumapao of Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba)-Prima, and Kim Lao and Alexis Sy of Bowlingplex Tenpin Association were named bowlers of the year by the Philippine Bowling Congress Youth Committee.

Jumapao and Lao came out the top players in the boys and girls class of the Majors division. Sy is the distaff side winner in the Juniors category.

To earn the title, Jumapao had to edge out 11 other keglers gunning for honors.

Jumapao, a high school student of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, stamped his class knocking down a total of 1,870 pins in the eight-game series, mustering an 80-pin margin over eventual second placer James Zuluaga, who is also of Cetba.

Titles won

The title was added to Jumapao's brimming collection. Apart from being named the Bowler of the Year, he also won other titles in the four-day competition.

He won in the Masters Final of the Boys Division, and came up the champion in the doubles event, where he paired up with fellow Cebuano Jake Yap.

In the Team Event, Jumapao, Yap with Christopher Foyle and Zuluaga finished runner up to a Manila team.

Meanwhile, Lao dominated the distaff side of the Majors class when she toppled 1,747 pins for the win. Her teammate Rocci Damole salvaged second place, but was behind by 211 pins as she scored 1,536.

The other bowlers of the year in the girls and boys divisions are Jasha Jaron and Kendall Dumaran in the Bantam Division, Marjo Reyes and JC Tupaz in the collegiate division. Louie Chuaquico was the top player in the boys Juniors class.
