Thursday, January 11, 2007 Toral: Generating income for bloggers By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
AS the Ituloy AngSulong search optimization competition nears its end, I find myself hooked on blogging and I can’t seem to stop.
To control the urge, I created a worksheet that lists down all my responsibilities for both home and work to check whether I’ve been missing on anything or anyone.
Every time I do something productive or acted on an item, I assign one point to it. If it is a blog or website, a post or update is equivalent to one point. If it is a person or company, each contact done is one point. For example, if I contacted a club member and asked for updates, that is one point. If they respond and share updates or ask a favor, then I deliver, that is another point.
The goal is to have 15 to 60 points for each item. That means 15 hits or actions done for every responsibility. This also allows me to focus on what I have to do first.
In the course of blogging, I’ve discovered more revenue earning schemes. However, I’ve learned about not-so- good experiences with some of them. Some do not provide a steady stream of work while others don’t simply get back to you even if you met the basic requirements.
I pity those who became victims of some scams where they supposedly registered to get part-time encoding projects and earn on the side.
A relative of mine joined that. After paying the registration fee, she received a spreadsheet of to-do items, which she was supposed to work on at no cost. The purpose of the spreadsheet is to test her and set up her profile.
Before she could finish the job, those behind the scam wanted to charge her for website fees. I advised her to cancel the payment she made.
I also have a lot of blogs, websites, club members and client websites that could use some promotion. To answer these parallel needs, I’ve decided to experiment on an earning scheme for my club members through advertising.
This is similar to blog or website advertising earning programs on the Web today. But these will be exclusive to a group of people for now.
The idea is to pay a blogger whenever he or she includes an ad link in his or her blog post or website article. Depending on the blog or website popularity, fees can vary from $1 to $10.
So far, this idea has received warm responses from the community where it will first be tested and I hope that this will work.
I think the development of programs like Google AdSense, ReviewMe, BlogtoProfit, Money4Blogs, PayperPost, among others have created a new realm of opportunities for small time entrepreneurs like you and me.
As I always mention in my podcast, the Internet is limitless, what will bound you will be your imagination, passion and determination to succeed.
