Cebu shooters top 3 of 4 events in Leyte

RAIN did little to dampen the action as athletes from the various gun clubs in Cebu topped three of the four divisions in the 1st Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla Cup practical shooting event in Baybay, Leyte over the weekend.

Dino Cinco, shooting for the Cebu Pistol and Rifle Association, together with Ric Bono and Chito Hernandez of the Casey Gun Club, outclassed their opponents in the Standard, Modified and Open divisions, respectively.

The three-day event was hosted by the Baybay Practical Shooting Association.

The competition, a Philippine Practical Shooting Association-sanctioned Level-III match, drew a total of 89 shooters, mostly from the Visayas.

Junior winner

Cinco, who also emerged the junior category winner, outgunned 39 other shooters in the division. Ed Martin followed at a close second together with Mark Marzan, Reynaldo Gana-ban, head of the National Range Officers Institute, and Jay Telin.

Bringing up the rear were Andres Banez, Gerardo Homeres, Marlon Alajas of the Ormoc Gun Club, Red Magdayao and Cebu City policeman Adonis Dumpit.

Bono, for his part, was unstoppable in the modified event, placing a whopping 15 percentage points between him and second-placer Irving Joseph Arevalo. Marvin Lim landed third.

Hernandez played just as strongly in the anything-goes Open Division, followed by Casey teammate Cesar Ting.

The Production Division title went to Danny Torrevillas of Ormoc Gun Club and the Philippine Team.

Athletes from Cebu still made it to the top 10 of 28 in the division though, thanks to the efforts of Kamagong Gun Club and Team Roble Shipping’s Lyndon Solatorio, who clinched seventh spot and the top lawman award. (KNR)
