Friday, January 12, 2007 Soon-Ruiz opens salon in Mactan
SEEING hair salons to be a growing business in Mactan Island, a local politician has decided to open one.
Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (Cebu, sixth district) led last Monday the formal launching of Kumadre, a salon and souvenir shop located across the entrance of the Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
“It started more as a hobby. The name was consigned by my kumadres,” Ruiz told reporters during the launching.
She said that apart from the encouragement of friends, the market for salons and boutique shops in Lapu-Lapu City “is not that saturated,” which prompted her to engage in this business.
The salon, which began operations in December last year, will cater mainly to the Cebuano market since its services are reasonably priced, Ruiz said.
An ordinary manicure costs P60 while a haircut costs P100.
According to Ruiz, she has hired her personal hairdresser to head the hair care service division of the salon.
The boutique also features several novelty items that Ruiz had purchased during her trips to Thailand and Vietnam. Other items are on consignment by Cebu-based exporters.
Ruiz said she has invested about P700,000 for the salon-boutique. (MMM)
