Telcos turnover new GK houses

PHILIPPINE Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. recently turned over the first batch of 16 completed houses to beneficiaries in the PLDT-SMART Amazing Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo in Iloilo City.

PLDT and Smart have committed to jointly build 100 houses —to be completed by next year— in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga Foundation and the local government. The GK village is being built for the families of the city’s streetchildren.

More than 200 employee-volunteers from PLDT, Smart, e-PLDT call center Ventus, and more than 200 students from partner schools Western Visayas College of Science and Technology and University of San Agustin, helped build the houses.

The GK Village in Iloilo City is the sixth GK village that the PLDT Group has adopted nationwide. (PR)
