Sinulog sights and sounds at Ayala Center Cebu

THIS January, Ayala Center Cebu joins the rest of the Cebuano community in celebrating the Sinulog Festival.

Whether one is visiting town for the festival, or simply looking around for the best buys, one may get the great discounts on purchases at the Grand Fiesta Sale which runs from Jan. 11 to 31.

Shoppers may view the annual Sto. Nino Exhibit at Exhibit Area 2 which will be on display from Jan. 11to 22. Themed, “Be good stewards of men and caretakers of nature and all its creatures,” the exhibit features various images of the child Niño, the reason for this grand celebration.

One may also watch Cebu’s loveliest ladies as they compete for the coveted crown in the live remote broadcast of the Ms. Cebu Coronation Night on January 18, eight in the evening at the Ayala Activity Center.

Giving a taste of the grand parade is the annual Kasadya night mardi gras, Pahugyaw Sa Sayaw: A Festival of Festivals.
Already on its fourth year, Pahugyaw has evolved from a street parade competition around Cebu Business Park into a showdown of the best festivals of Visayas and Mindanao, showcasing the talent and creativity of the Filipino spirit.

Participants this year include the Lanzones Festival contingent from Camiguin, Sadyaw Surigao Inc., Sinandoloy Cultural Group of Tanggob, Pintaflores Festival contingent of San Carlos City, Palawod Dance Company of Banatyan Island, Caranza Festival contingent of Danao City, Siloy Festival contingent of Alcoy, Mantawi Festival contingent of Mandaue, and Tribu Basaconon.

The mardi gras will start at 8 p.m. on Jan. 19, and will parade inside the mall, ending with a grand showdown at the South Surface Parking Area. A spectacular fireworks show will cap off the event.

Also on the 19th is the Balik Cebu Party sponsored by Cebu Holdings Inc. at the Lagoon Area. This gathering is held yearly to welcome kababayans who have come home to join in the Sinulog.

On the evening of the Grand Mardi Gras on Jan. 21, witness the Symphony of Fire - Fireworks Display of the Mitsumi Friendship Circle which will take off from the Ayala Driving Range. This 20-minute fireworks show which can be viewed from anywhere within the Cebu Business Park, will begin at 9 p.m.
