They were taken to the Talisay City District Hospital but later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
The truck was on its way to deliver 500 packed meals to policemen securing delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit when the incident happened.
According to PO1 Stephen Sefuesca of the Talisay City Traffic Police, the truck, driven by Evenair Villarino of Toledo City, was cruising in the highway when a car, driven by Brigido Alvarez, 57, crashed into its left side around 5:40 a.m.
Alvarez, a resident of Biasong, Talisay City, had come from Rabaya St. and was on his way to Tanke, a coastal barangay. The impact caused the truck to tilt to its side before it flipped over, dumping its contents of packed lunches on the highway. Sefuesca said investigators are holding Alvarez liable.
“He was more responsible for the incident because he bumped the passing truck,” he said
So as not to waste the food, the packed meals were reportedly distributed to nearby residents, he said.
Sefuesca said Alvarez has been detained pending the filing of a criminal case against him. (GC)
