Fires hit Brgys. Mabolo, Tisa; narrow roads hinder firemen

NARROW roads were the problem encountered by firemen who tried to save lives and belongings in the two fires that struck Cebu City yesterday.

Fire investigator SFO2 Felix Romero, in a telephone interview, said they had a hard time penetrating Sitio Panagdait, Barangay Mabolo, after receiving the alarm at 9:41 a.m.

They were too late to save three houses, two of which were razed.

Damage was estimated at P450,000.

According to initial investigation, the fire may have been caused by a two-year-old child playing with matches.

Firefighters also had difficulty entering an affected area in Sitio Morta, Tisa when they responded to a fire alarm at 4:16 p.m.

Illegal connection

The fire there was reportedly caused by illegal electrical connection.

It destroyed the house of Constantino Pilapil, including the houses of his three children and two relatives.

Damage was placed at P60,000.

Nobody was hurt in both incidents.

Cebu City Fire Marshal Ismael Codilla said fire incidents tend to go up because almost everyone is focused on the Sinulog festivities.

Codilla said that this is the reason why on Sunday, during the grand parade, fire trucks will be made visible to public.

“Fire trucks will roam the streets. This is to remind people to avoid other incidents like this,” he said. (KNT)
