Saturday, January 20, 2007 Speak out: Pickpockets in a mall By (Writer’s name withheld upon request)
LAST Jan. 12, 2007 our family went to one of the largest malls in Cebu.
As we were visiting the bazaar located at the third floor, a pickpocket victimized one of my daughters. Good thing she was able to ward off the hand of the pickpocket, who almost got her cell phone.
When I asked my daughter what the commotion was about, she said her phone was about to be picked by the person behind me. When I confronted the woman, she denied everything and hurriedly left the place.
I told the security guard stationed at the entrance of the bazaar about what just happened to my daughter. But she answered that she could not leave her post because she was alone.
My husband went to the guards stationed at the movie house beside the bazaar and reported the incident. They then called the security office and told my husband that someone would come up and take care of the situation.
We waited for more than thirty minutes but no one from the security office showed up. All the while, the two pregnant culprits were just sitting on the bench fronting the movie house enjoying their catch of the day.
I sympathize with those people in the bazaar or in the mall who were victimized by this pregnant duo. We left mumbling never again to set foot on a mall where security was not as tight as that in the Asean Summit.
