Nalzaro: ‘Kulang sa pansin?’
By Bobby Nalzaro
Saksi

POLITICS in Mandaue City has become more exciting with the announcement of Vice Mayor Amadeo “Ading” Seno Jr. that he will run for mayor in the coming elections against anybody, including Mayor Teddy Ouano’s annointed.

Ading decided on running after consulting his family and his political supporters.

Ading already talked with Mayor Ouano about his plan yesterday after the “translacion” of the image of Senior Sto. Niño. Teddy has groomed his son, Jonkie, to succeed him. Ading plans to get either Councilor Joash Cortes or Councilor Glen Bercede as his running mate and will put up a complete slate.

In the ‘90s, Ading ran twice for the post but lost to Teddy's father, Alfredo. He later joined the Ouanos and was elected vice mayor. This is his last term.

Well, this is a good for the political career of Ading, son of one of Cebu's prominent lawyers, the late Amadeo “Matoy” Seno Sr. He deserves a break. Maayo sad ni para dunay kapilian ang mga Mandauehanon gawas sa mga Ouano. And if Rep. Nerissa Soon Ruiz and Board Member Luigi Quisumbing also decide to run for mayor, it will be a four-concerned fight.

The more the merrier.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña claimed that his presence in the rallies staged by militant groups during the 12th Asean summit last week was meant to defuse the tension and prevent a skirmish between the protesters and the crowd dispersal unit. I doubt it.

I think the mayor merely wanted to catch media attention as he was left out in the summit limelight. He was only seen during the so-called spouses’ tour at the Family Park. Nagpapansin lang dahil kulang sa pansin.

When the summit was moved from December to January, Tomas got discouraged and distanced himself from the preparations. He even criticized the postponement saying it “was a sign of a weak leadership,” apparently blaming Malacañang for it.

The National Organizing Committee headed by Ambassador Marciano Paynor recommended the postponement because of typhoon Seniang. Malacañang approved it.

Tomas' presence in the rallies was, indeed, surprising. Why? Because there were rallies in the past staged by the same groups that caused tension but Tomas never meddled in them. And why would he personally be in the rallies when he could have ordered Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador to oversee the police operation and talk with the leaders of the protesters?
