IT will be another acid test for the undefeated AJ “Bazooka” Banal as he climbs the ring tonight to fight the iron-jawed Terdkiat Jandaeng at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
With the stakes raised after the fight was sanctioned as an eliminator bout for the WBO Asia-Pacific Youth title, Banal is raring to display his full potentials against Terdkiat, who bowed not to buckle down from the aggression of the 18-year-old Filipino opponent.
Terdkiat’s trainer-cum-manager Soontorn Moonkham announced after his arrival last Thursday that Banal needs to do better that what he had previously displayed as his rival came very prepared to give the youthful Cebuano a neat boxing lesson.
Terdkiat is hoping to follow the footsteps of his younger brother, Terdsak Jandaeng, who is now the WBO Asia-Pacific featherweight champion.
The only way for Terdkiat to ape his sibling’s feat is by winning over Banal, which would give the former a crack at the WBO AsPac superflyweight belt slated Feb. 24 here.
At the official weigh-in yesterday at the ALA Boxing gym, Banal tipped the scales at 116lbs, while Terdkiat scaled at 117lbs.
The other fights tonight include the Glen Masicampo-Anton Olarte tiff, the Rocky Fuentes-Greg Mangan duel, the Milan Melindo-Fabio Marfa war, the Joseph Omaña-Carlo Magale encounter and the Ruben Santillanosa-Edward Apa-ap fight. (RCM)
