Fire incidents in Cebu City drop in past 3 years: official
FIRE incidents in Cebu City “decreased dramatically” in the last three years, Cebu City Fire Marshal Ismael Codilla said.
Codilla said that based on the study he conducted, there were only 98 fire alarms reported last year.

This is small compared to the 112 alarms in 2005 and the 150 in 2004.
Massive
Codilla believes the decrease is the result of the massive fire education the fire department conducted in the barangays.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has been conducting safety seminars since 2002, Codilla said.
“I’m happy with this development because it shows the public is more cautious now,” said Codilla.
Codilla said 85 to 90 percent of the fires that struck the city in the last three years were caused by faulty electrical wiring.
The remaining 10 percent is due to negligence, like when mosquito coils, matches or burning cigarettes are left unattended. (KNT)
