PRESIDENT Arroyo declared Feb. 22 to 25 of every year as Edsa People Power commemoration week.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita yesterday said the annual weeklong celebration aims to enable the people to reflect and commemorate the first Edsa People Power catapulted Corazon Aquino to power in 1986.
“The important feature here is that all agencies of government, civil society, professional, mass media are called upon to participate actively. All provincial governments are also hereby enjoined to actively participate in this yearly commemoration from Feb. 22 to 25 in coordination with the Edsa People Power Commission,” he said.
Arroyo last Tuesday issued Proclamation Order 1224, which declared Feb. 22 to 25 of every year as Edsa People Power Commemoration week.
“There is a need to highlight the principles and values that the Edsa People Power Revolution stands for through its yearly commemoration that will serve to enshrine Edsa People Power as a continuing and permanent source of inspiration for future generations,” the President said.
She added that Filipinos also gained the respect and admiration of the world for their valor and for the demonstration of the people’s solidarity during the first people power. (Sunnex)
