His contract has been recommended for renewal, despite a brush with the law last year. Juanico was arrested in 2006 for alleged extortion and illegal possession of firearms, but the complaint was immediately dismissed for insufficient evidence. He reported to the City Council earlier this week his achievements as executive director.
Councilor Jovita Tuela Ouano asked Juanico if the board is aiming to “revive the good name” of the city after a shabu laboratory was discovered in Barangay Umapad in 2004.
Juanico said that as an effort to “start within,” an intensive information dissemination campaign has been done in schools. The board aims to reduce both the demand for and supply of illegal drugs in the city.
Juanico said that the Teddboard has conducted several anti-drug seminars to some 20,000 students.
Efforts also include the arrest of about 193 violators of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 last year.
In 2005, the figure was only 111. In 2004, it was about 114. (AAG)
