RCAF, Felmar drub foes in Sinulog Cup
THE RCAF quintet of Romeo Faunilla took advantage of their superiority in numbers as they clobbered the undermanned Atan Guardo-Green, 102-92, in the Punta Princesa Sinulog Cup basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Barangay Punta Princesa over the weekend.
RCAF’s victory was their third in six outings in Bracket B as the elimination nears its conclusion.

Despite their lack of personnel, the Atan Guardo Green was the more aggressive team in the opening period as they quickly built a 10-point bulge, 26-16, at the end of the canto.
Guardo-Green continued its aggressive offense in the second period with Danny Dela Pena and Rey Jumamel leading the charge as they unleashed 17 and 14 points, respectively in the period.
But RCAF’s deeper rotation soon became evident as Guardo’s scorers started to tire and allow RCAF to trim the gap at 50-48 at the bend.
The turning point for RCAF’s win came in the penultimate canto as the trio of Dandre Baclay, Lyndon Binondo and Alwen Tabasa combined efforts in towing RCAF past Guardo-Green to eventually overtake the latter, 72-67, going into the final period. RCAF maintained its momentum in the payoff canto to preserve the win.
In the main game, Felmar Enterprises had to undergo some nervous moments first before escaping past the hard-fighting CEC-'60 of Robin Ong, 103-97, for its third win in fiver outings also in Bracket B.
Felmar dictated the tempo of the game almost all throughout but almost lost their grip of the game when the Sixties launched a searing run that trimmed the gap to just one point, 89-90, in the last three minutes of the game courtesy of Alister Yu, who nailed three successive triples in the run, and Benedict Chua, who made 10 of his 18 total points in the period including an acrobatic lay-up that slashed the lead to a single point.
Felmar, though, managed to hold on to the driver’s seat en route to the win.
Former CIT Wildcat Jumie Ararao topscored for Felmar with 28 markers, while Sammy Co scored a game-high 34 points to lead the losing Sixties with Vic Chan adding 10 of his own.
