Saturday, February 03, 2007 Decisive matches in Milo tennis today
A BUSY day for local netters ensues today as the penultimate round of the first leg of the 20th Milo Junior Tennis Tournament resumes at the Casino Español tennis courts.
Sally Mae Siso will be seeing action in two semifinals games today after booking slots in the Girls 14 and Girls 16 divisions.
She will be challenged by rising netter Jessica Lagman in both divisions.
Siso’s brother Bernardine Niño and older sister Sallydine also arranges semifinal rounds in two divisions each.
Niño, who is on top of the Boys 14 division, will be facing Gedion Ramoneda in the semis today, and will later take on Jayvee Canoy of University of San Jose Recoletos, in the Boys 16 semifinal.
Jacob Lagman on the other hand will see action in the semifinal round of the Boys 14 opposite Joseph Tallo. He is set to display his winning rampage in the Boys 12 when he faces John Michael Necesario.
Old rivalry
If both Lagman and Siso win against their respective challengers in the Boys 14 division, the two will face each other for the first time in years. It will rekindle the rivalry that had started way back when both players were still playing in the 10Under unisex division.
During that time, the two players had taken turns in topping the division. The competition between the two only stopped when Siso went up an age division. Since then, both players have coexisted as top players in their respective divisions.
Sallydine, on the other hand, will take on fellow University of San Carlos South Campus varsity Kristel Mae Buenacosa in the semis of Girls 16 and 18. Also to be played today are the semis of the Boys and Girls 18 classes.
The tournament is the first of 15 legs that Milo will be staging for the year.
Lone Cebuano
Meanwhile, in Manila, Vince Mark Tabotabo of Tuburan Elementary School, single-handedly lifted the Cebuano banner when he entered the final round of the Manila Polo Club tournament, where he is the only Cebuano competing.
Tabotabo, who is supported by Accord Bank and Vice Governor Greg Sanchez, entered the final round of the 10 Under unisex class after trampling Eric Olivarez, 6-3, 6-1. Tabotabo, who is only seeded third in the tournament, had served the upset axe on Olivarez for the second time this year. The first time Olivarez felt Tabotabo’s wrath is during final round of the Andrada Cup last January.
Tabotabo will be going against Vince Salas in the title round. In their last outing, Salas lost to the Cebuano in the semifinal round. (MCB)
