DBC inks 1st win in Partners’ hoopfest
WHILE everyone expected the CDO Hamburger-University of the Visayas squad to hand another beating to a team in the Partners’ Cup basketball tournament, nobody came prepared for what sophomore team Guardo Arthro-Don Bosco squad displayed in last Thursday’s game at the Cebu Coliseum.
CDO-UV sailed to its second straight victory by extinguishing El Rancho Corned Beef Loaf-Cebu Institute of Technology, in a lopsided 89-59 win.

Don Bosco, on the other hand, who lost in its first game against CDO-UV, pulled the rug from under the Landmaster-University of Southern Philippines Foundation, as it won, 75-71, in the extra period.
The win will go down in the DBC history books for its first ever win as the team, which debuted in the collegiate contest for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi) last year, finished the season without a single victory.
Newcomer Jake Alferez slipped into the hero’s shoes, when he converted two crucial charities in the waning minutes of the extra time, to put DBC on the driver’s seat, 73-71. He later sealed DBC first victory by beating the clock with a layup.
Alferez exploded with 15 points, while Lester Sunga added 14 markers, to improve to 1-1 record. USP on the other hand, which was led by Dominic Ceniza’s 21 points, suffered its second straight setback in the competition.
In the second game, Jezar Esperat topscored for his team with 19 points including five treys. (MCB)
