Julies, Black Arrow ink wins in q’finals
JULIES Bakeshop-Oslob and Black Arrow Security Agency nailed separate wins Monday, to start their quarterfinal round campaigns on a bright note in the Punta Pricesa Sports Association (PPSA)—Tribu Guardo Sinulog Cup basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Barangay Punta Princesa.
The Julies quintet rolled off to a 105-83 rampage over the hapless VSC, while Black Arrow bumped Sista Super Sealers, 110-102.

The Securitymen of team owner Lando Almojallas displayed their dominance in the opening period as former UV Lancer, Rene Toring led an early assault for Black Arrow to give his team a 31-24 edge at the end of the canto. But Sista countered with their own version of a rally anchored on Rey Maraño and former CIT Wildcat Andy Fuentes to erase the deficit and overtake the Securitymen, 55-50, at the bend.
Sista maintained their momentum in the penultimate canto and were still leading Black Arrow, 81-76, in the opening minutes of the final phase before the latter leaned on the heroics of Boboy Rosito’s perfect setup plays that allowed Toring to score 15 points in the pivotal 4th quarter and engineer a successful comeback bid to secure the win.
Toring, who once played at UV alongside Donbel Belano, one of the Talk N’ Text Phone Pals’ playmaker in the PBA, registered a game-high 37 points, while Jovan Bulado and former Negros Slasher Julius Gastador chipped in 23 and 20 points, respectively, for Black Arrow.
