Tuesday, February 13, 2007 Love theories By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
A rare public offering by a group of passionate artists, Tuslob-Buwa presents Love Theories at the SM art center and Alas Cuatro at the Bluewater Gallery in the plush confines of the Maribago Bluewater Resort.
Over at the SM art center, their concept show on the theme of love explores four individual experiences on love. These are love-lust, love-list, love-lost and love-last. Evan Bejec’s love listings are works that materialized from his personal aspirations and ambitions. These are mainly things that he wants to happen in his life. His list, however, is like a New Year’s wish list—as these are mostly desires and wishes to do better.
Tackling the concept on love-lost is most challenging for Sio Montera. Aside from having to undergo the experience of losing someone special, he feels the need to translate his feelings into visual form.
Jojo Sagayno’s role as a father and husband has been an influential factor in the choices he makes. The series on love-last is a turning point to his overall self. Love, he believes, should last forever.
My take on love-lust is akin to lust for life. I believe that this lust is a reason for living, deeming that love is above all things material and immaterial.
Thereby, as an artist, I see it of paramount importance to express this in art. I think it is a wonderful existence for one to have a big heart to give. Heavy on personal symbolisms and highly autobiographical, the shows highlights love-related experiences each of the four artists underwent.
