Warriors win in OT

Games today (Cebu Coliseum)
4:30 pm – Guardo/DBC vs Gaisano Metro/UC
6:30 pm – El Rancho/CIT vs Skygo/SWU

ENRICO Llanto played one heck of a game Sunday night when he carried the Hapee-University of San Carlos Warriors to a nail-biting 86-80 overtime win against the gritty newcomer Skygo-Southwestern University Cobras in the Partners’ Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

The burly center of the Warriors banged in 17 of his 28 points in the final frame and in extra time to help the Warriors secure its second straight victory in the league.

Llanto, who has vexed Skygo’s defense while scorching hot from the frontcourt, was branded by Happee executive Jack Huang as the heart and soul of the Warriors.

Heart attack

“You put him anywhere and he executes. That was some game. I thought I was going to have a heart attack,” said Huang, who will also be on the sideline of his PBL team, Hapee Teethmasters, when it plunges into Game 1 of the finals series today.

Ramirez finished with 13 points. Louie Arong led the Cobras with 18 markers.

The Warriors improved with a 2-0 winning record, while SWU is slowly swirling in the drain as it absorbed its second straight loss.

Carrot and stick

Meanwhile, the Partner’s Cup launched yesterday at the Cebu Country Club their contest for best coverage.

Tournament commissioner Ramon Fernandez said that just like the thrust of the tournament, they also want to see a partnership in the coverage among reporters, photographers and their editors. Fernandez said that they will be giving out P9,000 top purse for the winning publication.

USC (86) - Llanto 28, Ramirez 13, Dejano 12, Blanes 8, Gallarde 7, Joven 5, Sharma 5, Igao 4, Padillo 3, Palos 1. SWU (80) - Arong 18, Gianchand 15, Zanoria 12, Maguate 11, Yap 10, Litorja 8, Tragico 4, Jueco 2. (MCB)
