NEW recruit Junmar Fajardo played the breakout game of his young career to help steer Metro Gaisano-University of Cebu to survive the unwavering Arthro-Don Bosco College, 103-91, in the Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The 6-foot-7 rookie proved showed he could just be the secret ingredient UC needs for its championship campaign as he improved from a measley four-point performance in the first game, to tally 13 yesterday.
Into the game, Metro Gaisano UC Webmasters had a hard time shaking off Arthro-DBC Greywolves , who were clinging at their heels for most part of the match.
What kept the Webmasters’ afloat was the 17-point bomb dropped by Jansen Abella in the first period.
The gritty Greywolves overhauled a 14-point debacle in the second frame and took the lead, 45-44. It was, however, DBC’s first and final hold of the lead as the Webmasters managed to pull through in the homestretch.
Fajardo, went hand in hand with senior slotmen Jonathan Canceran, Allain Abellanosa and Jared Kane in the concluding frame, to rebuild its lead to as much as 19, 66-85, to take its second victory.
Abella topscored for the team with 20 points, Canceran added 15. Abatayo and Abellanosa scattered 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Lester Sunga, who had made his presence felt from the three-point arc, topscored for DBC with 21 markers as the team absorbed its third loss against only one victory. (MCB)
