TAGBILARAN City - After lagging behind by two golds the other day, the Prisaa-Cebu swimming team bounced back with fury yesterday after taking the overall championship at the at the Philippine Maritime Institute swimming pool at the Taloto District here.
The Cebuano tankers’ feat capped a great day for the Prisaa-Cebu team as it successfully defended its overall championship title in the Prisaa regional meet, as its other teams also bagged the championship titles at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex.
The Prisaa-Cebu swimming team garnered a total of 20 gold medals out of the 42 events in swimming to pass by opening day leader, Negros Oriental-Prisaa, which wrapped up its campaign with 18 gilts.
Bohol-Prisaa, for its part, secured four gold medals.
University of San Carlos’ Andrei Yosef Ynclino and Lorhiz Echavez led the charge of the Cebuano tankers as they each won three gold medals.
Ynclino brought his overall gold medal hoard to six after he won yesterday the Men’s 50-meter butterfly event in 27.19 seconds, the 200m butterfly in 2:27.32 and the 100m butterfly in 1:03.16.
Wrap up
Echavez, who won the 200m Individual Medley the other day, wrapped up her bid by winning the Women’s 50m butterfly in 33.68, the 100m breast stroke in 1:26.04 and the 50m breast stroke in 39.19.
Also doling out a gold for Prisaa-Cebu in swimming are the women’s 4x100 Medley Relay and 4x50 Free Relay teams, which were both anchored by Echavez, Kruzette Khloe Solijon (200m freestyle), Maribeth Mall Ababon (50m freestyle), the 4x200m Free Relay team anchored by Solijon, Katrina Mae Rubi (200m butterfly), the Men’s 4x50m Medley Relay anchored by Ynclino and the Women’s 4x50m Medley Relay anchored by Echavez and Rubi.
The Men’s and Women’s track and field teams of Prisaa-Cebu also were successful at the CPG Complex as they won all but one of the final gold medals at stake in the final day of hostilities.
University of Southern Philippines-Foundation’s Mary Rose Arman starred for the women’s team of Prisaa-Cebu as she plucked three gold medals in the final day.
She won the championships in 3,000m (14 minutes and 02 seconds), 5,000m (20:11.00) and 10,000m (46:12.53).
Shining through
Sarah Angela Siocon of the University of Cebu also shone for Prisaa-Cebu in the final day as she doled out two gold medals-- Long Jump (4.83 meters) and Triple Jump (10.95 meters).
The other gold medalists for Prisaa-cebu in women’s athletics were; Elvie Codiñera (Javelin throw), Joy Tabal (100M), Annabelle Nuñez (800 meters), Eden Pampios (5K Walk), Janice Ann Bautista (High Jump), the 4x100m Relay team and the 4x400m Relay team.
In the men’s division, Anselmo Esgana led the charge for the Cebuano track stars as he plucked three gilts by winning the High Jump (1.70 meters), Long Jump (6.4 meters) and the Triple Jump (13.95 meters) events.
The other gold medalists in the men’s side were;
Aaron Mata (Javelin throw), Arsenio Codilla (100m), Ryanzel Ledamo (800m), Mendel Lopez (500m), Riez Enriquez (1,000m), the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
The lone gold that escaped Cebu’s grasp was the Pole Vault event, which was won by Richard Lontayao of Bohol with a record of 2.80 meters.
