Councilors invite developer to session
THE developer and landowner of the proposed golf course in Cordova town have been invited to appear before the Municipal Council today.
That, as Bayan Muna urged the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas to make an inquiry on the “questionable golf course project” that possibly has the collaboration of some high officials in the municipality.
For Bayan Muna secretary general Arman Perez, what’s going on in Cordova is “development aggression.”
But Mayor Arleigh Sitoy is firm in supporting the project, believing it could be a sustainable project for Cordova.
He explained that there are two developments in Barangay Gabi—the initial road network and staff house in a privately-owned area and the planned reclamation project that will complement the golf course.
Letter
Philippine BXT Corp. is developing the 27-hectare land with its initial road network construction and golf course staff house.
Last Monday, the company submitted its letter of intent to Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on a proposed 20 to 30-hectare reclamation project in the seawaters of Barangay Gabi.
The company is suggesting that the Capitol undertake the reclamation project and the Philippine BXT as an interested party or ready taker.
The company is eyeing the reclamation project as an extension of their planned golf course, now undergoing initial development.
He said funding for the reclamation is still open, depending on which scheme is suitable for the province and beneficial to the government.
Consultation
But Perez asked why Sitoy is still endorsing the project when proper documents for the project have already been secured.
Town councilors wanted to know how the company was able to acquire an environmental compliance certificate (ECC), despite the fact that there was no prior consultation.
Councilor Jonathan Gairanod said the ECC covers not only the land but the entire reclamation project.
“Will that ECC suffice for the entire reclamation project?” Gairanod asked.
Meanwhile, Lito Astille-ro, lawyer of Philippine BXT, assured councilors of their presence in today’s session. He refused to issue any statement yesterday, saying he wants to do it at the council today. (OCP)
