Guardo, GO head in Cebu City, says he’ll come up with slate

CONGRESSIONAL aspirant Jonathan Guardo was declared yesterday as the Genuine Opposition (GO) party chairman in Cebu City.

Accompanied by former senator Ernesto Herrera, Guardo took his oath as GO’s newest member before Makati Mayor Jejo-mar Binay, chairman of GO.

Guardo promised to come up with candidates against Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) bets.

He already identified five candidates for the south district. Former mayor Alvin Garcia will name candidates for the north district, he said.

In a long distance interview, Guardo named lawyers Joy Caballes, Salvador Solima, former City councilor Eugenio Gabuya, and Barangay Captains Danilo Lim and Jose Navarro as his party’s candidates for south district.

Guardo said he was around when the administration party’s Team Unity held a proclamation rally last Saturday at the New Cebu Coliseum, which he said was not filled up.

“I will fill up the coliseum, I will bring in more crowd when the opposition holds its own proclamation rally on the last week of February or first week of March,” he said.

Garcia, in a separate interview, said he is meeting his leaders and opposition figures this Friday to come up with a long list of possible candidates for the south district.

“I’m calling them to come to my house in Gorordo (Ave.) for a meeting,” he said, adding that he is having a hard time reaching his allies because he just lost his cellular phone where their contact numbers were saved.

But he identified former city councilor Carmen Piramide and Tinago Barangay Captain Joel Garganera as among those who will be joining him.

He said the long list will likely include lawyer Fritz Quiñanola, his son Raymund, and even Poten-ciano “Yong” Larrazabal III, whose family owns Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital.

Garcia considers himself “semi-retired” so he is playing a supporting role in the opposition. (RHM)
