Robbery suspect surrenders to cops
ONE of three men responsible for the heist that killed a businessman and wounded his wife in Carcar town in southern Cebu surrendered to police last Monday.
Raymund Cabiles, 29, admitted he was the one who drove the motorcycle and waited for Mariano Malinog and his wife Medarda to pass by Sitio Tan-awan, Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar Thursday last week.
The Malinog couple came from a fair in Mantalongon, Barili after selling their 25 hogs.
One of the robbers hitched a ride from there and then asked to get off in Sitio Tan-awan.
His two cohorts who were on a motorcycle then blocked the multicab and declared a robbery.
After they got the cash, Mariano ran them over, prompting one of them to shoot the couple.
Emergency room
Mariano died at the emergency room of the Carcar District Hospital. Medarda is still confined at a hospital as a bullet is still embedded in the left side of her chest.
SPO1 Joel Pananganan of the Carcar Police Station said Cabiles still had bruises all over his body after he got pinned to the motorcycle when Mariano ran him and his companions over.
He admitted that he was the one who owned the motorcycle and he was the one driving it during the heist.
Surveillance
One of his companions was reportedly the one who did the surveillance on the couple and did the planning.
Cabiles said that after the heist they divided the P57,000 cash and split ways.
He sought refuge from relatives in Talisay City and Cebu City.
They later convinced him to surrender.
He was picked up in his aunt’s house in Cabancalan, Mandaue City by two Cebu City policemen who knew someone who convinced Cabiles to surrender.
At 8 p.m. Monday, SPO1 Reynaldo Umaña and PO2 Fredilson Codilla of the Cebu City Police Office turned him over to the Carcar Police Station.
Pananganan said they already know the identities and background of Cabiles’ two companions.
The police are preparing to file a robbery with homicide and frustrated homicide against Cabiles and his companions. (MEA)
