Barrita: For the kids
By Eddie O. Barrita
Small Bites

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia are locking horns over the botched land swap deal affecting 4,200 families living on province-owned lots.

Mayor Tom, as the city’s “father,” said he was just protecting his children.

Gov. Gwen, as Cebu’s “mother,” wants “value for value” for province lots for the benefit of her poor children.

All for their children’s sake.

Mayor Tom stops province’s Ciudad project.

Gov. Gwen strikes back by closing access road at the old Larsian in Fuente Osmeña.

If they keep on closing one road after another, we’d call on Rep. Raul del Mar to hurry up and build flyovers all over the city.

Many showbiz stars are running for senators.

If they get elected, the Senate will be ablaze with stars.

I hope the Senate will not collapse into a “black hole” from which nothing, not even intellect, can escape.

Reelectionist Sen. Ralph Recto and senatorial candidate Prospero Pichay Jr. said senatorial bets need at least P200 million to wage a nationwide campaign.

Having the amount is no guarantee of winning.

Thus, having a “megastar” or a “star for all seasons” is a big help to a senatorial bet.

Everyone yearns for clean elections. But what about in areas still ruled by political warlords?

A story was told of a warlord who asked for a cache of automatic rifles for his private army from then president Ferdinand Marcos but the dictator refused.

The warlord threatened to “make elections clean” in his bailiwick and promptly got the guns.
