GCSOC’s bid back on track
AFTER deciding to pull out from the Arafura Games, the Greater Cebu Sports Organizing Committee (GCSOC) had a change of heart after the head of the Philippine Sports Commission convinced it to push through with its campaign.
“We are competing in the games. And we are back on our preparations. It is a good thing that we have a leader like Butch (PSC chairman William Ramirez), who is very broadminded and understanding,” said GCSOC executive director Allan Torrevillas.
Ramirez after completing his commitments over the weekend, requested an audience with Torrevillas and the city’s sports officials to discuss the brewing tension between the two groups.
The local sports heads, however, begged off from the meeting due to other obligations, leaving Ramirez and GCSOC’s officials to continue with the talks.
With this development, the GCSOC will no longer be representing Cebu alongside the tean from the city but as a separate body, enjoying the same privileges as the other LGU-organized teams from Bacolod, Davao and Manila.
“We are pleased that we are given freedom by chairman Ramirez,” Torrevillas said.
The meeting was an attempt embarked on by Ramirez to bridge the gap between the two warring groups, a mission he considers a challenge for his leadership.
“It won’t matter if I have to frequent my visits here in Cebu.” said Ramirez. (MCB)
