Tribu Guardo escapes elimination

Games today:

(Cebu Coliseum)
4 p.m. - M. Lhuillier vs. Holcim Pryce-MisOr
5:30 p.m. - Cindy’s-Tacloban vs. HeartVit-
Tribu Guardo

THE HEARTVIT-Tribu Guardo five escaped elimination last night as they rode on the three point shots of Doroteo Almacin and Reed Friar Juntilla to send the Henkel-Sista SuperSealers packing for home following a 90-83 win in the main game of the 2007 MVBA Pre-Season tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Earlier, the multi-titled M. Lhuillier Jewelers banked on another third quarter spurt to bring Cindy’s-Tacloban on the brink of elimination following a 97-92 victory.

Almacin, who was named best player of the game, scored all of his 18 points from behind the three point line on top of five rebounds and one assist. He was responsible for HeartVit’s pull away in the second quarter.

Juntilla, on the other hand, connected three triples in the end game to stall the Super Sealers’ attempt at a comeback.

Tribu Guardo erected a 15-point lead with 1:56 left in the third period, giving them leeway to build a 68-55 lead entering the final quarter.

Meanwhile, the Jewelers sank six triples in the third period with Mike Manigo and Stephen Padilla nailing two each and Woodrow Enriquez and Jett Latonio contributing one each to lead the Jewelers’ break-away from a tight ball game at the end of the third period.

Marlon Legaspi, Nani Epondulan and Marvin Sta. Cruz tried to rally Cindy’s-Tacloban but the Jewelers defense held firm.

Woodrow Enriquez topped the Jewelers with 19 points while Epondulan topped Cindy’s-Tacloban with a game high 25 points.
