Friday, February 23, 2007 Engineers’ group adopts guidelines
THE Board of Engineers has adopted in principle the guidelines on the continuing education for chemical engineers as provided under Section 6 (a) of Republic Act (RA) 9297, also known as the New Chemical Engineering Law of the Philippines, and Section 9 (4) of RA 8981 of the Professional Regulations Commission Order 220.
A total of 20 units (or the equivalent in credit hour per year) or the cumulative of 60 units (or its equivalent in hours for three years) will be required for the renewal of registration of the professional license to practice chemical engineering.
The new guidelines became effective in January this year.
Among the activities and programs that are creditable are: graduate degree, masters in science and doctorate; participation in lectures and seminars; attendance in Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers conventions as well as related international conferences; authorship of a book, technical papers and instructional materials; employment as chemical engineer; conduct of research; and receipt of awards.
