University gives P60T for GK’s Dumanjug site
THE Graduate School of Business of the Ateneo de Manila University donated a house to the Gawad Kalinga (GK) site in Bitoon, Dumanjug and has committed to encourage its students and faculty to be involved in the project.
The Ateneo Cebu Satellite, represented by Mona Padilla, one of the professors, recently gave a check worth P60,000 to GK’s provincial area director Victor Abarquez.
Ateneo is scheduled to have its first house built on March 17.
“This is one way of putting into practice the values of St. Ignatius ‘We are men and women for others’ and allowing students to visualize more one of Ateneo’s mission statement, which is “Environmental and Social Responsibility,” Padilla said.
Helping
Ateneo Manila is also encouraging the Cebu Satellite to start participating in helping the community.
“We want to put our teaching in action—that business is not only for profit but also for nation building,” she added.
The Ateneo Cebu Satellite started in 2001.
They now have more than 100 students and have already produced 43 graduates.
GK encourages corporate universities, like Ate-neo, local governments and individuals to help address issues of poverty through the spirit of “bayanihan,” faith and patriotism.
