Gin Kings gun for title against Beermen today

Game 6 today
(Araneta Coliseum)
7 p.m.- San Miguel Beermen v. Brgy. Ginebra Kings

THE Barangay Ginebra Kings are expected to go all out for a victory today that would give them the championship title in the 2006-07 Talk N Text-PBA Philippine Cup when they take on sister team, San Miguel Beermen, in Game 6 of their Best-of-7 titular duel.

The Kings snatched the driver’s seat out of the Beermen’s hands the other day when Best Player of the Conference Mark Caguioa scored 28 points and Jay-Jay Helterbrand added 26 to lead Ginebra to a 94-82 victory in Game 5.

With that win, the Kings can complete their remarkable comeback from a 0-2 deficit and reclaim the crown they held during the 2004-05 season with one more win today.

“We’re so close and yet so far,” said Barangay Ginebra head coach Jong Uichico after Game 5’s win.

He maintained that the series ain’t over until his troops win the title by clinching a fourth win.

“We’ll go for it (title). But we have to bring our A-1 game because San Miguel is not going to give it to us on a silver platter,” said Uichico, who is seeking his seventh title and second all-Filipino crown.

Again the Kings will rely heavily on Caguioa and Helterbrand, while Sunday Salvacion, Rudy Hatfield, Eric Menk, Ronald Tubid, Raffy Reavis, Billy Mamaril and Johnny Abarrientos are expected to give ample support.

San Miguel Beer, for its part, will be hoping that Danny Seigle, LA Tenorio, Don-Don Hontiveros, Olsen Racela and Lordy Tugade step up to the occasion to prevent a title shutout and at least forge a deciding Game 7. (JSV)
