Speedy kinda love By LaMyerda Charlene Go
AT some point in our lives, we seek to find something that seems to be missing.
We may not know what it is exactly, but the only thing that can fill that empty space is love. We’re all amateurs at it, most of us don’t have a clue how it works, or how it should feel; we only have an idea of what it should be, most often what one sees in the movies.
Last week, we celebrated the most romantic occasion of the year, Valentines Day. Researchers say that the occasion is even more celebrated than Christmas itself, since all around the world, regardless of philosophy, religion or culture, we all share that universal language.
What is all the hype about anyway? For some skeptics, it might just be a money-making scheme for businesses such as flower shops, motels, restaurants, and Hallmark. But for most, especially the hopeless romantics, it’s a time of the year to celebrate the day of hearts. And for those still trying to find love, there’s speed dating.
The concept of speed dating was introduced by a Jewish Rabbi, Yaacov Deyo, eight years ago to encourage intra-faith marriage among those of the Jewish faith. Now, it has evolved into a “game” where singles gather in an organized meeting and they are paired with the opposite sex on separate tables. They are then given the chance to get to know each other for a few minutes and everyone switches partners until each person has gone around speaking with each individual.
Last week Q4 hosted Find Love in the Nick of Time— the first speed dating event in Cebu at the Wineshop along Gorordo Avenue. Fifteen candle-lit tables with sprinkled rose petals were prepared for 30 couples to get to know each other over wine. It cannot get any more romantic than this!
They were also serenaded by Up Close who sang acoustic love songs and favorite ballads while couples assessed their chemistry. So, if in case you are in search for that one true love, or maybe in search for just new friendships, speed dating is a great and fun way of going about it. However, I’ve always believed that the best way of finding that one true love is when it sweeps you off your feet unexpectedly!
