Mandaue city seeks P6.2M in Capitol aid for projects
THE Mandaue City Government is requesting the Capitol for financial assistance worth at least P6.2 million to implement projects in the city and its barangays.
About P1.2 million will be for the projects in the barangays while the P5 million is for the city.
In an interview, Mayor Thadeo Ouano said the projects are mostly for the improvement of drainage systems and asphalt overlaying.
He said the barangays will propose a project for funding to the City for approval.
But not all barangay captains in Mandaue City are allied with Ouano anymore. At least nine are now with Councilor Jonas Cortes, who broke away from Ouano’s group to run for mayor this May.
Six village chiefs are running for councilor under Cortes’ slate.
City Councilor Wenceslao Gakit, head of the committee on budget and finance, said yesterday that roads in Barangays Pagsabungan and Banilad are among those to be improved.
Pagsabungan Barangay Captain Cirilo Congson and Banilad Barangay Captain Dianne Abanes are allied with Cortes.
Congson is running for councilor while Abanes’ uncle, Councilor Glenn Bercede, is Cortes’ running mate.
Gakit said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has asked Ouano if there are projects that need funding.
Ouano told the governor the city already has a list of projects but this need funds.
Barangay captains have been asked by the City Development Council to submit a list of projects for implementation but not everyone gave a list, Gakit said. (AAG)
