Traffic affected by closure of Capitol property rerouted

TO adjust to the closure of a strip of road near Chong Hua Hospital, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Traffic Group will reroute traffic in three roads starting Monday.

Instead of a one-way traffic from the corner of J. Llorente St. to B. Rodriguez St., the Traffic Group reversed it so that vehicles from the hospital will now exit towards J. Llorente.

And instead of a one-way traffic from the Fuente Osmeña rotunda towards J. Llorente, flow of traffic is reversed on Don Gil Garcia St.

This way, vehicles from Chong Hua will exit towards the rotunda through J. Llorente and Don Gil Garcia.

And the portion of J. Llorente St., between Don Mariano Cui and Don Gil Garcia Sts., will be made two-way.

The City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), however, may have to relocate the fruit vendors at the side of that portion of the road.

Chief Insp. Jonathan Abella, Traffic Group chief said the change, which is temporary pending approval from the City Council, was agreed upon after the Capitol closed a 15-meter portion of J. Llorente St. last Monday.

This road used to be an exit point of vehicles from the hospital.

“It’s difficult to exit towards Fuente. They will just turn around and exit to the other side as they can not turn left to the closed portion of the road,” he said.

Abella said the Citom board recommended that traffic be rerouted in the area to help motorists and those going out of the hospital.

The Capitol, in response to the Cebu City Council resolution imposing a moratorium on developments in the Banilad area, closed the road near Chong Hua and an access road from Banilad towards the Asiatown IT Park in Barangay Lahug.

The Capitol intends to build a commercial establishment in Banilad, but cannot proceed since it cannot secure a locational clearance because of the council resolution. (RHM)
