Sisos gun for RP team slots today
THE Siso siblings Sally Mae and Bernardine Niño will be flying for Manila today to try their luck in the RP youth team to compete in various international competitions this year.
The tournament they will be taking part in at the Rizal Memorial tennis courts is the World Juniors Cup Qualifying, which is for players in the 14 years old and below bracket.
Another Cebuano, Kristel Mae Buencosa was also invited, but she is already over aged, having recently turned 15 years old.
Siso, who just moved to the Girls 14 class this year, will be playing as an unseeded player in the invitation only tournament.
Top caliber
Tournament organizer Chris Cuatro, the new Philippine Tennis Association administrator, only invited top-caliber players who have shown extraordinary performances in the past year.
Last December, while playing for the Girls 12 division in the Malaysian tennis circuit, Siso collared six gold medals in the circuit, which is divided into four legs.
The feat also earned her a spot in the Most Outstanding Individual in the Cebu City Charter Day celebration. Siso could have missed the awarding, where she will be the very first awardee from the sports sector and the youngest individual winner.
Luckily, the awarding was postponed from this weekend to the first weekend of March.
Impressed
Siso also wowed an American national coach Ted Sayhrader, who was here recently to teach top junior players new techniques in tennis.
The other competition today is the 16 under, whose winners will get to represent the country in the Junior Davis Cup. Last year, Cebuano John Francis Largo made the cut and represented the country in the Junior Davis Cup in Thailand.
The Siso siblings of University of San Carlos South Campus, is being supported by Casino Español Tennis Club, Nick Pepito and Jonathan Guardo. (MCB)
