The eyes have it
By Jigs Arquiza

IT has often been said that the eyes are the windows of the soul.

Operating along the lines of this oft-repeated premise is Eyes, a spanking-new nightspot dedicated to giving a good time to its customers. Located along Banilad Road, Eyes offers everything a discriminating night owl needs: beautiful people, great atmosphere, kick-ass music and good food.

Call it a major case of multiple personality disorder, but Eyes offers club kids the best of everything. It’s a lounge, billiard hall and restaurant all at the same time. The dining area greets customers as they enter the premises, while off to the left is the entrance to the main bar. With the interior of the main bar a combination of bright colors, dazzling lights and chest-pounding house music, customers are treated to an experience nothing short of a psychedelic trip to Electric Ladyland. At the back lies a spacious area containing a billiard table, some more tables and chairs and a raised dais for a band or a deejay. Take the tables, chairs and pool table away and you get enough space for more than a hundred people to dance in. Covered by a massive tarpaulin, customers can call it Cebu’s answer to The Fort’s NBC Tent.

Although partying is the main activity at Eyes, eating comes a close second, as evidenced by the number of dishes in Eye’s menu. Traditional drinker’s favorites such as sisig, calamares and onion rings are available, as well as more filling fare, like chicken cordon bleu and the ever-popular tapsilog.

Drinks are plentiful, from beer to all sorts of cocktails. First-timers should definitely watch out for their Blinkers, drinks that blink, a big hit with most of Eyes’ customers, male or female.

Only one billiard table is available, though this is more the proprietor’s choice than anything else. Proprietor Paul Yu says, “Playing billiards isn’t the main focus of Eyes. The billiard table is there just as an added attraction for the customers.” He explains further “We wanted a place where people can eat, drink and hang out. We have people coming in just to eat whereas others come in to drink or play billiards. Customers can even dance if they want to.

We’re thinking of holding big events here, especially out in the back area. We can take out the billiard table and hold really big dance parties and concerts there.”

Partner Simon Carrey, who manages the selection of food and beverages, interjects with a grin, “Foam parties would be really nice, too!”

Whatever way you look at it, a drinking place, a restaurant or a hangout as a whole, Eyes can stand with the best of what Cebu’s nightlife can offer.

Partyphiles can say that Eyes is not just a window to the soul; it’s a doorway to the soul of partying.
