Thursday, March 01, 2007 Favila undergoes 2-hour checkup at Vicente Sotto
MURDER suspect Michel Favila Sr. was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center yesterday for a checkup.
He was rushed there in an ambulance, escorted by personnel of the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center (BBRC) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and three teams of the Special Weapons and Tactics.
He was carried on a stretcher to the emergency room. A surgical mask covered his face.
Several tests were performed on Favila, who was examined for two hours.
Official lab results have yet to be furnished to Regional Trial Court Judge Bienvenido Saniel. However, an ABS-CBN TV Patrol report said Favila was found positive of pulmonary tuberculosis and diabetes.
Saniel ordered another medical examination on Favila after the latter requested for hospital confinement due to his “rapidly deteriorating” health.
This is the second time this year that Favila left BBRC for a checkup.
Last Feb. 1, the court allowed Favila to be examined at the Cebu City Medical Center for a second opinion, after BBRC doctors diagnosed him with pulmonary tuberculosis and diabetic foot ulcer.
According to his lawyer, Giovanni Mata, he could die or lose his foot if his condition is not treated as soon as possible.
Favila is a member of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, headed by former Dinagat mayor Ruben Ecleo Jr.
He is facing murder charges for the death of lawyer Arbet Sta. Ana-Yongco, the private prosecutor in the parricide case of Ecleo.
Ecleo is accused of killing his wife Alona in January 2002. (KNT)
