Thursday, March 01, 2007 IM Sanchez makes RP’s top ten list
INTERNATIONAL Master Joseph Sanchez made it to the top 10 active players in the country based on the latest Fide rankings.
IM Sanchez is ranked number five with a Fide rating of 2482 to become the lone Cebuano in the list. Sanchez is presently in Italy and is competing for a Grandmaster norm at the 2007 FIJ Open in Cannes, France.
GMs occupy the top three positions in the country with GM Mark Paragua hogging the top post. GM Rogelio Antonio Jr. is in second place with GM Eugene Torre holding on to the 3rd spot. In fourth place is IM Rogelio Barcenilla.
GM Paragua has a Fide rating of 2573, GM Antonio with 2551, GM Torre with 2547 and IM Barcenilla with 2503.
Completing the top ten finishers are IMs Darwin Laylo, Oliver Dimakiling, Jayson Gonzales, and Idelfonso Datu. John Paul Gomez is in 10th spot.
Laylo has a rating of 2482, Dimakiling has 2481, Gonzales has 2458, Datu with 2457 and Gomez with 2455.
Others in the top 25 are IMs Ronald Dableo at 11th with 2453, Wesley So at 12th with 2451, Roland Salvador at 13th with 2450 and Enrique Pacencia at 14th with 2432. GMs Buenaventura Villamayor and Nelson Mariano are at 15th and 16th places, respectively. GM Villamayor has 2425, while GM Mariano has 2422. Rolly Martinez is at 17th with 2419, Hamed Nouri is 18th with 2418 and Rolando Nolte at 19th with 2417.
Other Cebuano chessers included in the top 25 of the list are IMs Rico Mascarinas with 2416 at 20th position, IM Richard Bitoon with 2416 follows at 21st place. IM Barlo Nadera is at 25th place with 2399, and FM Anthony Makinano is at 44th place with 2317. (JGC)
