Talisay barangay leader denies blocking Leyson’s medical mission

ASSOCIATION of Ba-rangay Councils (ABC) president Osmundo Manreal Jr. yesterday denied reports they blocked the medical mission of Cebu City Councilor Gabriel Leyson in Barangay Pooc last Wednesday.

“It’s not true, we welcome everyone who can provide free medical services to our barangay,” said Manreal, also village chief of Barangay Pooc.

But Manreal said the medical mission group should have informed the barangay hall as a gesture of respect and courtesy.

The ABC chief said he was only surprised when he saw the medical mission staff in the barangay’s basketball court when he passed by the area last Wednesday morning.

Inform barangay

This, he said, prompted him to call the attention of his Barangay Secretary Marivic Ibuña, who then asked about it.

“She only asked what the activity was all about. We never stopped them. In fact, they continued the medical mission in the afternoon,” Manreal added.

Manreal hopes that next time Leyson’s camp spearheads a medical-dental activity, they should inform the barangay hall for proper coordination and as a show of respect to the local officials.

Manreal is an ally of incumbent Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, who is seeking reelection this May.

Sun.Star Cebu twice tried to call Leyson on his mobile phone yesterday afternoon but got no answer.

It was learned though that Leyson, who is running for Talisay City mayor, has been conducting medical missions in the barangays of Talisay City since last year. (GC)
