Saturday, March 03, 2007 Chuachoy, Ornopia Hontiveros lead cast of SAC awardees
THE athletes and sportsmen whose outstanding exploits in their respective fields made 2006 a memorable year for Cebu sports will formally be honored during the 25th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Corp. (SMC) All Cebu Sports Awards on April 13 at the City Sports Club-Cebu.
Motocross patron Iluminado “Lou” Ornopia, pro cager Dondon Hontiveros and cycling benefactor Alan Choachuy head the early list of awardees identified by SAC in a special meeting yesterday presided over by SAC president Rick C. Gabuya and Girlie Garces of the SMC-Visayas corporate affairs at the Laguna Garden Café.
Ornopia will receive the “Sportsman of the Year” award for his dedicated and invaluable contribution to the development of Cebu sports in his own little way.
Hontiveros, on the other hand, will be the recipient of the “Orlacsan Memorial Award,” not for his achievements on the hardcourt, but for his magnanimous heart.
Choachuy, a constant supporter of cycling for several years now, is Gabuya’s choice to grab the “Presidential Award.”
