Saturday, March 03, 2007 SWU hailed champions in CDS tilt
SOUTHWESTERN University Dentistry successfully defended its crown in basketball in the Cebu Dental Society Annual Sportsfest after logging in a lopsided 65-35 win over the hapless CDS-2 quintet, Tuesday at the Visayan Glass Gym in Barangay Guadalupe.
The SWU Dents applied a leach-like defense on CDS-2’s shooters all throughout the game while scoring at will on their part as they broke the game as early as in the opening canto after rushing off to a 19-8 edge.
So suffocating was SWU’s defense that only one player of CDS-2 was able to score in double digits, while four of the former’s players tallied double digit scores.
With Ross Ceniza totally controlling the boards, the tandem of Earl Atonducan and Adrian Satorre took turns in drilling holes to CDS-2’s defense as the SWU Dents stretched their lead to 43-17 at the bend.
With a 51-25 advantage at the start of the final canto, the SWU Dents encountered little trouble in the final phase as CDS-2 tried hard but failed to overcome the monster deficit as time expired.
Satorre led all SWU scorers with 16 points and Ceniza added 13 of his own, while Atonducan and Fermilan chipped in 11 apiece.
The championship title was SWU’s third in the last four years and their second-straight in the tourney, which was also participated in by CDS-1, Cebu Doctors University Dental Technicians, University of the Visayas Dental students and SWU Dental students.
CDS-2 settled for the first runner up honors, while CDU took home the second runner up honors.
