Saturday, March 03, 2007 Unbeaten teams clash today in Liloan beach volleyball
THE battle of the undefeated teams will highlight today’s resumption of the 1st M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala All Ladies Beach Volleyball Invitational at Wiggy’s Beach Resort in Liloan, Cebu.
Bracket leaders University if the Visayas (UV) and Southwestern University (SWU) are set to collide with unbeaten counterparts today, which will iron out the teams’ rankings before the crossover quarterfinals tomorrow.
For the afternoon session, UV’s Jusabel Brillo and Janez Ygot, who lead bracket B with 3-0 win-loss ledger, will dispute the top spot against Julett Mae Marikit and Genie Sabas of University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R), which is second with a 2-0 record.
SWU’s Maritess Natad and Janelle Tabio on the other hand, squares off with Hiroshi’s Leizel Manatad and Florian Rodriguez as they battle for the top spot in Bracket A.
In the morning, USJ-R of coach Grace Antigua is expected to sail through its assignment against the Verano sisters Ericka and Yvonne of Crunchicken-University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) after the curtain raiser between Hiroshi and Exas Philippines.
Loser out
The winners in today’s competition will complete the quarterfinal cast in Bracket A, while the loser will be booted out in the two-weekend tournament.
Mechell Matuguina and Angielove Cabiles of the Jaguars keep their hopes for the title alive as they take on X-Panthers Marissa Lagancia and Elen Pongase.
The winner in this match up with join USJ-R, USPF and UV into the next round, while the loser will bid the tournament goodbye.
The top four teams per bracket at the end of the classification round will advance into the crossover quarterfinals, and the four survivors advance to the semis.

The tournament is supported by M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, M. Lhuillier pawnshops, ML Pamilya Insurance Plans, Nature's Spring, Bodytone, and the municipality of Liloan.
Aside from trophies and medals, the champion will receive P5,000 and six-month free workout at Bodytone, while the second to fourth placers will pocket P3,000, P2,000 and P1,500.
Special awards will be handed out to the MVP and the "Darling of the Crowd," who will enjoy three months workout for free at Bodytone. (MCB)
